A significant year as the football associations of  Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands met in Paris along with Union des Sociétés Françaises des Sports Athlétiques to form The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) .


FIFA proposed an international tournament to be held in Switzerland in 1906, but this never came to fruition. 
Member nations Belgium and France joined the international football family, Austria and Hungary continued their local rivalry.
