St Mark's (West Gorton) FC founded by church wardens William Beastow and Thomas Goodbehere in an effort to combat social problems.

King George V attends a game at Hyde Road- the first time a monarch has attended a game outside London. Later that year a fire destroys the main stand.

Financial crisis threatens closure of the club. James W. Gibson invests £30,000 and becomes chairman.
