Newcastle United
Twenty eight different sides competed in the First Division of the Football League during the first decade of the 20th century. Twelve of those teams are at present in the top tier of the English football pyramid. This is a cumulative table based on the clubs' average placement during those 10 seasons.
London teams now begin to appear in the Football League (along with Bristol City), but the dominant forces in the professional game are still to be found in the north, the north east and the midlands.
