Bert Bliss

Tottenham Hotspur's Bert Bliss with an overhead kick in the 1921 FA Cup Final. Bliss was an inside forward who made 215 appearances for Tottenham (106 goals). He later played for Clapton Orient and Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic. His one appearance for England (vs Scotland) came 2 weeks before this FA Cup Final.
Tottenham's opponents in the final at Stamford bridge were Wolverhampton Wanderers. 20 year old winger Jimmy Dimmock scored the winner in the 55th minute.

Arthur Grimsdell

Arthur Grimsdell made his debut for Tottenham Hotspur in April 1912.
His career was interrupted by the 1914-18 war.
He had been touted as an England international as early as 1913, and played in 2 Victory Internationals in 1919, but his full international debut was delayed until 1920. He represented England 6 times, captaining on 3 occasions.
The picture shows The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, meeting Arthur Grimsdell prior to the match between Spurs and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 16th October 1920. Spurs won 4-0. Earlier that month Spurs had beaten Chelsea 5-0 at White Hart Lane.
Grimsdell was back at the Bridge the following March, meeting King George V and the Duke of York as Tottenham won the FA Cup.

Vivian Woodward- Southern League, Football League & FA Cup Record

Vivian Woodward's name is forever associated with the remarkable scoring feats of the England Amateur sides of 1906-14 (and their other guise as the double gold medal winning Great Britain Olympic team of 1908 & 1912). He also toured with Football Association squads and featured prominently for various amateur combinations such as English Wanderers and Pilgrims
It is worth recalling that Woodward also scored 29 goals in 23 matches for England between 1903 and 1911.
So what of Vivian Woodward in League and Cup football?
Woodward joined Spurs in March 1901 and made just 1 Southern League appearance that season:

Woodward has the distinction of scoring Tottenham Hotspur's first Football League goal.

Chelsea were prepared to play Woodward in the 1915 FA Cup Final (by then he was Lieutenant Woodward of the 17th Middlesex (1st Football Battalion)). Woodward declined to take the place of the in form  Bobby Thompson.

A gentleman amateur (an architect and farmer) Woodward was also on the board of directors for Tottenham and Chelsea during his time with the clubs, something we'll probably never see in the Premier League.  

Ostend 1907

A 2 day festival of football took place at the Wellington Hippodrome, Ostend on 19th &20th May 1907.  On the 19th 2 Southern league teams,  champions Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur , who had finished the season in 6th, faced Belgian opposition.  

Union Saint Gilloise were the Belgian champions.

Tottenham's scorers in the win over Union were Leipzig born Max Seeburg (3),England legend Vivian Woodward (2), George Payne (2) and Alf Whyman.
Whyman and full back Walter Bull scored against Fulham.
The attendance for the Tottenham Fulham game was approximately 1,500.
Fulham joined the Football League for the 1907-08 season, becoming the 4th London club.

Sandy Tait

Sandy Tait began his football career in his home village, with Glenbuck Athletic. Having played in the Scottish League for Glasgow Rangers and Motherwell, full-back Tait joined Preston North End in 1894. Tait played 76 first team games for Preston in 5 seasons.
 He then moved to Tottenham Hotspur. In 8 seasons at Spurs Tait played a total of 322 first team games (207 in the Southern League, 79 in the Western League and 36 in the FA Cup).
In 1899-1900 Tottenham won the Southern League and in 1901 the FA Cup.
Tait's robust tackling earned him the nickname Terrible Tait, but he was fair- never being cautioned or dismissed in his career. 

Association Football by J.L Jones (1904)

I cannot find words strong enough to express my disapproval. The habit of smoking, once started, may lead to grave disasters.

Jack Jones (1904)

Jack  Jones was born in Rhuddlan but grew up on Merseyside. Early in his career he played for Bootle, but his first taste of League football came at Grimsby Town.  His talent as a cricketer took him to Sheffield United Cricket Club and he then also signed for the Sheffield United Football Club. After 3 seasons at Bramall Lane Jones moved to Tottenham Hotspur. The fact that Tottenham were then in the Southern League meant that United didn't receive a transfer fee. United were further angered as the club had secured Jones a cricket coaching position at Rugby School.
Jones enjoyed 7 years at Tottenham Hotspur, and was captain of the FA Cup winning side in 1901. An outside left, he represented Wales on 21 occasions. 

Jones' book ran to 112 pages and featured chapters entitled The Disposition Of The Field; The Forwards; Half Backs; Backs; The Goalkeeper; Heading, Dribbling, Passing, and Shooting; Training For Football; The Rules Of Association Football; The Football Association  and The Offside Rule.

1914

The football authorities came in for a great deal of criticism when play continued following the outbreak of war in 1914. There was no reluctance, however, to exploit the potential of the game as a vehicle to promote voluntary enlistment (conscription was not introduced until 1916).
The above posters appealed to the patriotic inclinations of supporters of Millwall and Tottenham Hotspur.
