Roose saves from Morris

The evolution of halftone printing techniques led to the widespread use of photographs in the mass media. The Athletic News was prominent among the publications that brought this exciting presentation of football action to the masses.
As in the previous post, we have 2 Welsh players in opposition here.
Dick Roose of Sunderland saves from Gren Morris of Nottingham Forest. The match, at Roker Park, ended in a 2-2 draw (15.10.10).

1904 FA Cup Final

The first all Lancashire Final.
Billy Meredith scored in the 23rd minute, beating his countryman Dai Davies with a left footed shot. In the illustration Davies (who had played for Swinton in the 1900 Northern Union Rugby Challenge Cup Final)  looks almost like a disinterested bystander.

Leen Vente - Wat een geweldig kapsel!

Leen Vente (Leendert Roelof Jan Vente) was an inside forward.

10 of Vente's 21 Netherlands appearances came during 'our' era (pre July 1937). In these games he scored 10 goals, including 5 in his second appearance, a 9-3 win over Belgium.
He moved from Neptunus to Feyenoord in 1936 and scored the first ever goal at De Kuip (Stadion Feijenoord).

What a tremendous hairstyle!

Club Atlético River Plate

1909
From their foundation in 1901 until 1905 Club Atlético River Plate wore white jerseys. Their iconic red band first appeared in 1905, but in 1909 was replaced by red and white vertical stripes. This was the home strip until 1932, when the red band reappeared.
