Andy Wilson vs North America 1921

Andy Wilson joined Middlesbrough from Cambuslang Rangers as a 17 year old. He only got one season with Boro before the 1914-18 war started, playing 9 games and scoring 5 goals. In 1919 he played in 2 unofficial Victory internationals for Scotland (scoring 4 goals) and joined Dunfermline Athletic, who were playing in the  dissident Central League. In 1921 the SFA took over the Central League and Wilson returned to Middlesbrough
The period 1921–1923 saw him make 77 league appearances for Boro, scoring 51 goals.  In 1923 he moved to Chelsea (at the end of the 1923 season he was top scorer for both Chelsea and Middlesbrough).
Wilson spent 8 seasons at Chelsea, scoring upwards of 50 goals in about 250 appearances. He then moved
to Queens Park Rangers and later to SC Nimois in France.
Wilson's international career was also impressive.
Capped 13 times from 1920–1923 he scored in 10 of these matches, a total of 13 goals.

The most remarkable spell of Wilson's career came in the summer of 1921.

He was invited to tour North America
with Third Lanark ( the tour featured players from  8 Scottish Clubs and they were billed as
Scotland or Scottish FA on the Canadian leg of the tour).
Wilson played in every game on the tour and scored in all but 2.  60 goals in 25 games over 2 months.

Rotterdamse Voetbal en Atletiek Vereniging "Sparta"

Founded in 1888 Sparta (Rotterdamse Voetbal en Atletiek Vereniging "Sparta") is Rotterdam's senior club. They played their first season of championship football in 1893–94.

1909

Sparta won the National championship in 1909, 1911, 1912, 1913 and  1915.
In 1899 the club adopted the colours of Sunderland.

Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax also sported these colours , red black and white being the civic colours of Amsterdam. When Ajax joined the  Eerste Klasse in 1911 the rules dictated that  there could be no duplication of strips, and Ajax adopted their iconic white shirts with a broad red band.

The poster advertises a match between Sparta and D.F.C (Dordrecht). The Dordrecht club was founded in 1883. D.F.C still exists as an amateur club. In
1904–05 D.F.C joined the Eerste Klasse West.  The seasons 1911-12 (goals scored), 1912-13 (1 point) and 1915-16 (1 point ) saw them finish runners up to Sparta by narrowest of  margins.
In 1923  Eerste Klasse West was split into West I (North Holland & Utrecht) and West II (South Holland), placing Sparta and D.F.C in different leagues.

Martin Munkácsi

Munkácsi Márton or Martin Munkácsi was a revolutionary figure in the art of photography. Sometimes referred to as the father of fashion photography he worked for the  Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung and later Harper's Bazaar.
His early career was spent as a photojournalist covering sporting events in Budapest. He was the author of a number of stunning football photographs.
I have no idea which teams are represented here-I suspect Ujpest in the stripes?

Eight months after the first game Alcock's England XI met Kinnaird's Scotland for a rematch at The Oval.
England won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Walker following a run by Alcock. Notice that at this point in the game's development that the teams changed ends after a goal had been scored.
Note that one could  apply by post to be considered for selection.
